1991 Presents Hamilton Gifts Star Trek Mug - Sulu

My Boyfriend came to me one day and said that he had been at the local thrift shop - and that he had a gift for me. Fist he gave me a disgusting monkey three feet tall, furry, ugly, and dirty. I am still quite sure that it was a joke. But then he gave me a bag with a mug inside:

There are quite a few of these mugs out there, with different members of the crew featured. These mugs were distributed exclusively by "Presents", a division of Hamilton Gifts. Like many things, these ceramic mugs were made in Korea. On the front is a picture of the crew member (Sulu), and the text around the image reads "The voyages of the Starship Enterprise - To boldly go where no man has gone before".

On the back of the mug is the crew member (or ship's) name - coming toward you in 2D WARP SPEED. I am very fond of the artwork done for these mugs. On the bottom of the mug it states that the artwork was created "Star Date 0786.28 by Susie Morton of Planet Earth".

He has found me another mug since then - with Captain Kirk - but I have yet to take pictures because of the state of my camera. Until then, here is a picture of me drinking milk out of my Sulu mug:

Hollywood Walk of Fame Trading Cards - Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner 1991

It is Christmas. I sit here wrapped in a soft new blanket drinking eggnog, eating Ferrero Rocher, and admiring one of my gifts - two Hollywood Walk of Fame trading cards (mint!) from my sister, ordered off ebay. They are the most beautiful trading cards I have ever seen, and they will never leave their protective slips.

Leonard Nimoy's card has a publicity photo from "The Sun Also Rises" on the front:

And some interesting information on the back, including his birthday, the location of  his Walk of Fame star, and his career highlights:

The picture on the back seems to be from the time of his interview with Dr. Julius Strangepork in 1984.

William Shatner's card (No. 177 as opposed to Nimoy's No. 8) has a photo of the incredibly handsome man himself on the front. I am unsure of the source of this photo, however:

On the back, as on the other card, reads information such as his birth date, the location of his star, and the highlights of his career. For some reason the "the" in "The Kidnapping of the President" has a capitalized "h" as well as "t". These are important things to notice. The photo used is a publicity photo from T.J. Hooker:

I am actually very glad that they did not focus too much on their roles as Spock and Kirk, as they have done so much more in their lives. For instance, William Shatner was absolutely genius in Judgement at Nuremberg, and Spock was just as (if not more) sexy in his role as Dr. David Kibner in Invasion of the Body snatchers. I also loved him in the Sea Hunt episodes and in the Balcony. But especially in Sea Hunt.

Cybermen Vs. Daleks Poster

I managed to get my hands on the Doctor Who Magazine from December 1991 - Issue 182. Not only does it have amazing artwork on the cover, but it also has a wee Sylvester McCoy in the corner (I do love the Seventh Doctor).

The best part is the free poster inside, featuring the Mondasian Cybermen battling the Daleks. Interestingly enough, we don't actually see the Daleks and Cybermen together until "Doomsday" in 2006 (Terry Nation, the creator of the Daleks, never did agree to have them appear together).

I have this poster up on the wall right beside my bed, so whenever my Dalek alarm clock goes off, I open my eyes and see this battle scene. It's a great way to wake up in the morning.
