IDIC Star Trek Shirt Photos

I haven't been blogging a lot - I have been working and pursuing other interests, such as photography. I have also been spending a lot of time on the Vulcan Language tumblr, which I started and now run with T'Puhku. I feel like the Vulcan language and culture are very separate from Star Trek, in a way. Like they are two very distinct obsessions (which they are) and I almost forget at times that the vulcan language ever had anything to do with Star Trek at all.

A couple of months ago I received an IDIC shirt in the mail, and it is definitely one of my favorite articles of clothing. I found it while I was browsing ebay, and immediately went out to buy a prepaid visa, came home, registered my visa, and bought the shirt. Luckily, I had another shirt in my closet which was the same style, and so I got my measurements from that.

I went outside to take some simple photos of myself wearing the shirt, but that somehow turned into a full-blown self photography project (which included using a tutu as a headdress).

The best place for taking photos happened to be in front of my apartment building, right beside the main street and a sidewalk. I had people watching me from their cars, and a couple of people asked if they could take my picture. One person (an amazingly nice woman) even directed me, asking me to look through the lens of my camera like I was taking a photo. We spoke for a while, sitting on the grass - and I taught her how to say "dif-tor heh smusma".

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations - a philosophy that I think more people should adopt. If you would like one of these lovely IDIC shirts for your own, you can get it here (women's) or here (men's).

Doctor Who Shirt - David Tennant and the Tardis

As many of you already know, I live in Canada. Right now it is about 18 degrees (64.4 degrees Fahrenheit) and I feel like I am going to die of heat stroke. Despite this, I decided to wrap myself up in clothing (why?) and go out to take pictures. Doctor Who related pictures in the wind and the heat.

I am wearing a shirt that belongs to my sister, featuring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. She bought this shirt at Comic Con a year or two back, after I had already left for the day. I am also holding a miniature TARDIS because it happened to be in the bag with my camera.

It is actually a wind-up TARDIS that I picked up while I was buying a copy of Metropolis.

But back to the shirt. I really love this shirt (it looks better on her, in my opinion) because of how intense the Doctor looks - I'll bet when my sister is talking to people while wearing this shirt, they are intimidated into utter silence.

This shirt also goes well with my blue hair.

I was also, while I was outside with my camera, making a small video in which I was lost in place with movement but without sound. I kept calling for the Doctor, but he never came. I found a security device I thought I recognized, but when I ran up to it and started mouthing words (screaming, almost, but there was no sound) I was soon chased away by... something. It was actually really depressing, as you can see by the shot below:

Unfortunately, I was using the video recorder on my DSLR camera, and the focus is terrible. One of these days I will have to record it again, but with another recording device.

Vibrant Oxymoron - T'Laina Revealed

V is for Vibrant Oxymoron!

Ever since I started this blog, I have refrained from posting any pictures of my face. I had a lot of reasons - privacy, mystery... but I got over that quickly. I decided today that I would give my readers (whom I appreciate greatly) a little treat, so I went outside with my camera and took some quick pictures.

I look so impressed all of the time.

That was sarcasm.

Last time I posted a picture of with my hair on here, it was turquoise in the front and blonde in the back. It has grown out a bit since then, and I decided to dye the rest of my hair (which is naturally dark brown). In case anyone is curious, I used Atomic Turquoise Manic Panic.

I recently got braces, which feels strange sometimes. I find that I don't even know how to hold my mouth anymore.

Fun fact: I wear a lot of plaid. My closet looks like a lumberjack ate his/her clothes and vomited on the floor.

I also have an anatomical skull model whom I named Gregory after Dr. Gregory House. I bought it to work one day, but they told me that I couldn't have it at the checkout.

I just really enjoy biology. (See? I have interests other than Star Trek and Doctor Who!)

So there you have it. The face behind the blog.

Fan fact #2: these pictures are unedited, except for the watermark, and taken with a Fujifilm FinePix S3400.

The Empty Starfleet Child - Are You My Mommy?

I love the Halloween season. I have never celebrated  Halloween in my life, nor do I now. I think it is pointless, and it is also against my religious beliefs. But I love it, if only for the costumes and pieces I can pick up at the shops - things that are impossible to find any other time of the year.

I was walking through Value Village today, when I found a couple of things that inspired another photo-taking session. First of all, I found a flimsy rubber "gas mask" which I promptly bought (for a dollar!) and wore home.

Mummy? Are you my mummy?
I was originally in there, however, to look for a Star Trek costume. I was hoping to find a Science Officer Uniform (TOS) but I couldn't find one anywhere. I figured that if I did find one, it would be from the new movie. Sure enough, behind ratty wigs and sequined strap on wings, I found just that.

It is ill-fitting and the neck is so ugly I wear a scarf with it, but it was only three dollars.

But seriously - that pattern.
I went out into the hallway of my apartment building to take photos. People stared, as usual. I responded by questioning their relation to me. I always worry that people look at me taking self portraits and assume that I am a vain MySpace girl or something. I assure you, it is more artistic than that.

I leave you now with a very blurry photo that I enjoy tremendously.

It sees you when you sleep.

Trek Inspired Photoshoot

There are so many things that I wanted to put on here, but it wouldn't look right unless it was being worn. By myself. I have had a science tricorder for quite a while now (I used to wear it to school every day), and I recently got an amazing custom Kirk shirt. I came home the other day with a mask from the dollar store, drew eyebrows on it, and went outside to take some pictures.

Model: Me
Photographer: Myself and Mr. Camera Timer.

While I was out taking the pictures, people were on their balconies staring. It was quite interesting. Also, my hair is quite long here - I used to have a bowl-cut, but now I am growing out a chelsea mullet. When the front and back grows out more, I will keep the rest cut closer.

Potau taurauk!
