Hallmark 2011 Star Trek Keepsake Ornaments - Mirror, Mirror and Mister Spock

About a month or so before Christmas, 2011, I was looking around the Hallmark shop in an attempt to ward off boredom. I walked up and down the aisles, watching as children briefly handled delicate objects before their parents snatched them away, nearly breaking the object themselves in the process.

When I finally got over to the back wall, I saw two of the most beautiful ornaments I had ever seen.

They only had two of the three Star Trek ornaments released for 2011, as they were not selling the Romulan Bird of Prey at the time. They did, however, have a Spock figure and a Mirror, Mirror figure featuring Mirror Spock and McCoy. (Click images to enlarge)

This particular figure ($29.95) portrays Mirror Spock and McCoy as seen in the episode Mirror, Mirror, in which Mirror Spock forcibly withdraws information about the transporter malfunction from McCoy through a mind meld. Unfortunately I missed last year's scene ornament, which depicted the battle between Kirk and Spock in Amok Time.

This figure was sculpted by Valerie Shanks, and is 4.75 inches tall. When the button on the base is pressed, this dialogue plays:

Our minds are merging, Doctor. Our minds are one. I feel what you feel. I know what you know.

I must say,  however,  that McCoy's face looks very strange. Mirror Spock, on the other hand, looks like a Vulcan Jesus (but in a sexier, more sinister way than Sybok).

The second figure ($14.99) of Mister Spock was sculpted by Anita Marra Rogers, and is actually the second in a series of ornaments titled "Star Trek Legends" (the first, of course, being Captain Kirk in 2010). It is 4.5 inches tall, and looks... sad.

I mean, I absolutely love this figure - but from a certain angle (see photo above) he just has such a sad face.  The clothing, however, is more well done - more attention seems to have been paid to the detail on the shirt and insignia.

Fun fact: Anita didn't watch Star Trek until she started working on the ornaments.

I am quite looking forward to this year's Hallmark figures, which will be the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, "An Extraordinary Meeting" (NuSpock and Spock Prime, with sound), and Doctor McCoy. I am equally as excited for the 2013 figures, which will be Scotty, a scene ornament depicting the battle between Kirk and the Gorn from Arena (with sound), and the USS Kelvin from Star Trek XI. I sincerely wish that I had started collecting these sooner.

Trek Inspired Photoshoot

There are so many things that I wanted to put on here, but it wouldn't look right unless it was being worn. By myself. I have had a science tricorder for quite a while now (I used to wear it to school every day), and I recently got an amazing custom Kirk shirt. I came home the other day with a mask from the dollar store, drew eyebrows on it, and went outside to take some pictures.

While I was out taking the pictures, people were on their balconies staring. It was quite interesting. Also, my hair is quite long here - I used to have a bowl-cut, but now I am growing out a chelsea mullet. When the front and back grows out more, I will keep the rest cut closer.

My Own Little Corner of Heaven - A Salute to Greatness

Just about half of all my Star Trek and Doctor Who belongings take up a single corner of my (shared) bedroom. Basically, I have this kind of shrine made up of a desk with some shelves piled on top of it holding my books, magazines, figures, unlimited rice pudding, etcetera (bonus points to anyone who got that reference).

Anyways - while playing around with my new camera the other day, I took some photos of this cluttered contraption and the belongings which I hold so very dear (click to enlarge):

You would see (especially if you enlarged the photo) many fantastic things such as: the Portal cake. Pictures of myself in Vulcan dress with Robert Picardo and Tim Russ. A paper model of the Enterprise. A portion of my Star Trek and Doctor Who novels. My kalimba and wooden harp. Random printed out pictures stuck to the wall. A newspaper clipping that reads "Crucifixion Draws Crowd". Every TOS episode on DVD, guarded by Daleks. A TARDIS. Metal Box (PiL). Some of my arts and crafts. My action figures. Tons of Manic Street Preachers and PiL CDs. A 3D holographic Dalek poster. An ant playing a trumpet, whom I named Adam Ant and is from Whoville. Star Trek movies. A newspaper cut-out of Sheldon and Leonard in their underwear. I could go on, but instead I will move on to the bottom...

Down here we have fun things like Star Trek: The Game. A tricorder. Star Trek Magazines. More Star Trek and Doctor Who novels. Star Trek and Doctor Who hardcovers. The floor. And if you look in behind the books, you will see Richey Edwards poking his head out from under the desk.

The rest of my things are on (hyperbole time again!) a million other shelves in my room, and my comics are in boxes. I love my room - it is filled with everything I have ever loved, but in excess. I swear to you now, there is nothing better.
